Types Of Cricut Cutters

Expression And Expression 2

These are the earlier generation Cricut cutters. They are basically cartridge based machines that can be used without any computers. Each cartridge comes with it’s own overlay. On cartridges that were issued after 8/2014, there is a universal overlay, rather than a separate one for each cartridge.

They use a mat that holds the paper for cutting. They can use a mat that is 12 x 12 inches or 12 x 24 inches. They cut in 1/4 inch increments.

Using A Deep Cut Blade

For an optimal cutting experience, it is recommended that you use a deep cut blade, especially when cutting thicker materials such as heavy fabric, poster board, chip board, magnet board and faux leather. The Deep Blade can cut most materials up yo 1mm in thickness using the multi cut feature.

Mat Tips And Tricks

  • Ensure there is enough space for the mat to run all the way through the machine. You need about 10 inches for clearence
  • Always replace the mat after use to keep the mat surface clean.
  • Never store a mat that still has material attached to it.
  • Evenly use the entire service of the mat by alternating which end you load into the machine first
